As president of EGI, Mark oversees all aspects of the business. He focuses on maximizing and sustaining the value of the firm’s investment portfolio and optimizing Sam Zell’s network. He applies his 20+ years of board and CEO experience inside and outside the organization by actively engaging with the investment team and portfolio companies to improve business strategies and operating capabilities.

In addition, Mark is vice president of Chai Trust Company, LLC, the corporate trustee for the Zell family trusts. He also serves on the boards of five EGI investment companies. He is the executive chairman for Exterran Corporation, a systems and processes company for oil, gas, water, and power. Mark serves as chairman of the board for Ardent Health Services, a provider of hospital and healthcare services; Lanter Delivery Systems, an asset-light dedicated delivery service provider; and Paper Transport, a for-hire trucking company focused on dedicated truckload, intermodal, and brokerage services. For Able Freight Services, a provider of airfreight forwarding services focused on time-sensitive perishable goods, Mark is a board member.

Mark joined EGI in 2006 as a managing director and have overseen a range of investments. He has also held temporary in-house assignments within EGI portfolio companies to accelerate and increase the effectiveness of turnarounds, including stints at Tribune Interactive and Exterran Holdings, Inc. Prior to joining EGI, Mark was the chief executive officer of Sunburst Technology Corporation and served on the company’s board of directors. He also served as the president of Budget Group, Inc. (Budget Rent A Car and Ryder Truck Rental) and was on the company’s board. Earlier in his career, Mark worked at The Coca-Cola Company in senior brand management and sales roles.

Mark holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from Amherst College.
